MORRIS C9 with BOFORS at FIREPOWER MUSEUM- 16th JULY 2014
Morris-Commercial C9/B SP 40mm Bofors Gun at Firepower Museum. Designed as a private enterprise by the Morris-Commercial company, the C9/B used a lengthened version of the well-known C8 “Quad” artillery tractor. The War Office realised that the company had come up with a very effective design and an order was placed with around 1,700 being constructed between 1943-1944. Comprising of a very basic body with four-abreast seating & no cab as this would have restricted a 360 degree traverse. Only very early examples were fitted with a windshield/screen. Another design innovation included a a hinged steering wheel so that in would fold out of the gun barrels way! A flat platform was used so that ammunition boxes could be placed at the rear with several storage boxes for crews kit underneath the main body. Also included were four heavy scissor jacks to raise vehicle off the ground for a stable firing platform.
